Let's get you started! Grab a cuppa with our co-founders Nic and James as they welcome you to The Fifth Point family. They'll personally make sure everything is organised for your course. They'll arrange your training sessions to fit your schedule, sort all the paperwork and get your eLearning set up too. This means you'll be prepared and raring to go when you jump in our tank for the first time.

You can either come into the centre for your welcome session or connect online over Zoom. Either way, Nic and James will introduce you to the team and take you on a tour of our amazing dive centre.

PADI Specialty Courses are the perfect way to pursue a diving niche that really excites you. Perhaps you want to extend the limitations of your current training or learn more about something that's really specific, this is where these courses come into their own.

Extend Your Limits

If you want to challenge yourself that little bit more, or dive places that are beyond your current level of training, specialty courses can help stay down longer, dive deeper and give you the skills to achieve more in diving. Check out these PADI Specialties that will give you extra

  • Deep (qualifies you to 40m)
  • Wreck (learn how to safely penetrate)
  • Nitrox (extend your bottom times by breathing enriched air)
  • Dry Suit (stay warm in cold water - perfect for UK diving!)
  • Sidemount (dive on a whole new set up)

Expand Your Knowledge

If there's an area of diving that you're desperate to know more about, you can learn so much from a PADI Specialty. Couple that with one of our Instructors who are mad keen on the subject then you can milk them for everything they know!

  • Equipment (learn how your scuba gear works and how to look after it)
  • Fish ID (confidently identify the fish you'll see during your dives)
  • Underwater Naturalist (be able to identify marine life other than fish)

Hone Your Skills

Sometimes you might just want to up your game when it comes to your diving skills. PADI Specialty courses give you the time to practise and direction from your Instructor.

  • Peak Performance Buoyancy (nail your buoyancy and trim)
  • Drift Diver (confidently plan and dive in currents)
  • Night Diver (explore dive sites by torchlight)
  • Search and Recovery (be the hero and find lost gear)
  • Underwater Navigator (be confident that you know where you're going)
  • Dive Against Debris (protect the ocean by removing rubbish and reporting it)

What are the prerequisites for specialty courses? 

The exact requirements depend on the individual course, and you can see more info in the slider above.

You will also be required to complete:

  • The Medical Statement – Please ensure you are fit to dive by checking this form. If you answer "yes" to any of the questions, you'll need to take the form to your GP to get signed off as fit for diving before you can hit the water.

What Scuba Gear Will I Use?

We only use brand new, modern gear at The Fifth Point. In fact, you'll be wearing exactly the same equipment as your Instructor! We've spared no expense to make sure that you've got gear that fits you properly, is comfortable to wear and straight forward to use.

We supply everything you need including:

  • xDeep Zeos backplate, harness and wing buoyancy device
  • Apeks XL4 long hose regulator
  • xDeep integrated weight system and weights
  • Fourth Element Hydros 7mm semidry wetsuit or Aqualung Fusion One/Azdry dry suit with Fourth Element Artic undersuit
  • Fourth Element 3mm or 5mm hoods and gloves
  • Fourth Element 5mm Pelagic boots
  • Apeks RK3 fins
  • Aqualung i100 diving computer
  • A scuba diving air cylinder to best suit your size (choose from 7L, 10L and 12L tanks)

Master Scuba Diver

The Master Scuba Diver rating places you in an elite group of respected divers who have earned this rating through both significant experience and scuba training. Every diver should aim for Master Scuba Diver.

To qualify you need to:

  • Be a PADI Open Water Diver
  • Be a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver
  • Be a PADI Rescue Diver
  • Hold 5 PADI Specialty Diver certifications
  • Log 50 dives

After our Protect What You Love trip, you're already well on your way to achieving this goal - you'll have 3 specialties and another 6 dives!
