Our Goals

During the PADI Instructor Development course, you will create the foundations for your future scuba diving career. Find out more about our team...

Our Values & The PADI Instructor Development Course

  • OCEAN HEALTH: Keep Our Sea Trash Free

    • Every dive we do is a Dive Against Debris. You will see your colleagues pick up every piece of trash they come across, and you can help too!
    • As part of our Bootcamp and Flexi packages, you will become a PADI Dive Against Debris Specialty Instructor.
  • MARINE LIFE: Protect What You Love

    • During your IDC you will take part in numerous eco workshops that will teach you how to deliver courses in an environmentally responsible way.
    • You will learn how to demonstrate skills neutrally buoyant and how to conduct teaching sessions with all your students hovering.
    • During the Bootcamp and Flexi IDCs, you will become PADI AWARE Fish ID and PADI Underwater Naturalist Specialty Instructors.
  • PEOPLE AND COMMUNITY: Leading The Way

    • Our IDCs are taught by our resident Course Director, Nic. She has spent a lot of time breaking down barriers in the UK Diving Industry and is the only female Course Director in the region.
    • She takes a modern approach to Instructor Development and will not teach you how to pass an Instructor Exam. Instead, she will teach you how to be a fantastic instructor who will SMASH the IE without even thinking about it.
  • HEALING AND WELLNESS: Let's Go Diving

    • We help divers achieve their goals.
    • We value all our customers and strive to give the best customer service you've ever experienced
    • Once you've graduated as a PADI Instructor, all our staff are on hand to give you help, advice and any further training you might need.

We're A PADI 5* IDC Dive Centre

We are subject to PADI’s quality assurance program. This is a globally acclaimed and fully integrated approach to ensure PADI standards are maintained throughout all elements of all courses. You can rest assured that we go above and beyond the requirements of PADI.

Before The Course

You'll complete some online theory before your IDC begins. This includes PADI's Instructor Development Course eLearning (which helps cut down the amount of time we sit in the classroom, and gets us in the water faster!) and PADI's Dive Theory Online (to help brush up your Physics and Physiology amongst other topics).

IDC Prep

We use these two days before the IDC officially starts to answer any questions you might have and put your mind at ease. We'll also make sure you're feeling good about your skills and knowledge. We'll hit the training tank to work on our skill demos, the classroom for a few practise exams to make sure there's no gaps in our theory and then lets go for a dive just for fun and to get to know your team and staff. We'll also have a welcome party with drinks and nibbles so you're nice and relaxed ready to start one of the most intense and amazing courses you'll ever take!

The Instructor Development Course

There is a lot to get through in this program! Depending on the package that suits you, how you take these sessions is up to you. For our Bootcamp, we've made sure that there's ample time to practise so that you get the most from the program. Our Fast Track condenses all the mandatory segments of the course into a much shorter time, leaving less room for development but perfect for the confident candidate. Our Flexi leaves the scheduling completely up to you - take as much time as you need.

You'll listen and take part in presentations from our staff including:

  • Course Orientation
  • Developing Knowledge Development Presentations
  • 4 Es Counselling Workshop
  • Teaching in Confined Water
  • Conducting Open Water Dives
  • General Standards and Procedures
  • Open Water Diver Course
  • Adventures in Diving Program
  • Rescue Diver Course
  • Risk Management

You'll develop and deliver your own teaching presentations including at least:

  • 3 Knowledge Development Teaching Presentations
  • 4 Confined Water Teaching Presentations
  • 2 Open Water Teaching Presentations

You'll also take part in a number of in water workshops including:

  • Skills Demonstration
  • Discover Scuba Diving
  • Adventure Dive
  • Rescue
  • Eco Diver
  • 800m snorkel swim

The EFR Instructor Course

In order to enrol on the PADI Instructor Exam, you must be an EFR Instructor. This course is led by Nic, but when it comes to demonstrating first aid skills, we've brought in our pals at Life Saving Training so you get the best experience you can. Helena and Ian are the owners of Life Saving Training, an award winning first aid training company. They live and breathe first aid as EFR Instructors, but also Mountain Rescue Volunteers and avid Rescue Divers. Learning from them will mean all your Rescue Courses and stand alone EFR courses are top notch.

Your IDC prepares you for a career as a PADI Instructor. The Instructor Exam is an evaluation of your awesome skills to make sure you're ready to be set loose on all the baby divers! It's two days of fun, although you might not feel like it at the time, you'll definitely look back on it as one of the best weekends of your life! We usually schedule our IDCs right before a local exam, but you can go to any exam you like - they're all over the UK (and the world!).

A PADI Examiner will visit and you'll work through the following activities:

  • Dive Theory Examinations (Physics, Physiology, Equipment, Skills & Environment, RDP)
  • PADI Systems, Standards and Procedures Exam (open book)
  • Knowledge Development Presentation
  • Confined Water Teaching Presentation
  • Confined Water Skill Circuit
  • Open Water Teaching Presentation
  • Open Water Rescue Demonstration (Rescue Exercise 7)

Look familiar?! It's everything you've been working on during your IDC. The PADI Examiners are an awesome bunch. Once they've handed over that little certificate to say you've passed, it's time to celebrate!

Everything you need for the IDC and EFR Instructor Course is included in your course fee.

We'll try and get in the sea locally as much as possible which will be about a 15 minute drive from the dive centre.
