Take your PADI Rescue course in Northumberland
PADI rescue course

Gain confidence in yourself.

Take care of your dive buddies.

Fix problems before they become serious.

We never expect things to go wrong when we're diving. But there's always a chance. The PADI Rescue Course prepares you to deal with common diver problems should the proverbial ever hit the fan.

The PADI Rescue Course will change the way you dive - for the better. You'll gain much more confidence as a diver as your focus shifts from thinking about yourself to caring for your buddies. You'll find you're much more alert to what's going on around you, ready to nip little problems in the bud before they turn into something more serious.

Your PADI Rescue Course adventure is designed to equip you with all the skills and knowledge you need to take action when something unexpected happens. You'll learn lots of different skills from minor maladies like helping tired divers exit the water, to worst-case scenarios where you'll practice searching for missing divers and giving non-breathing casualties rescue breaths while getting them to safety.

Your training will be as near to real life as possible, with realistic scenarios to help apply your newly learnt skills and knowledge.

If there's one thing we can guarantee about the PADI Rescue Course, it's that you're going to have so much fun during this adventure. Although the stuff you're learning about is serious, the course itself will have you laughing too - especially when your instructors give their oscar worthy panicked diver performances!

FAQs

The PADI Rescue Course is the next step for divers who already hold an advanced qualification like the PADI Advanced Course.

Before you begin your adventure, you must meet these requirements:

  • You must be at least 12 years of age
  • You must be a PADI Adventure Diver (or equivalent) with Navigation Adventure Dive or a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver
  • You must be in good physical health and complete this Medical Statement (Please take a look at this form. It's a self-declaration of your fitness to dive by answering a series of yes/no questions. Depending on your answers, you may need to take the form to your GP to get signed off as fit to dive before you can hit the water.)

Before certification, you also need to show proof of a current CPR & First Aid Certificate within the last 2 years. Although all our team are qualified first aid instructors, our real skills lie in teaching scuba! That's why we bring in the professionals from Life Saving Training to deliver all our first aid training.

Helena and Ian are avid Rescue Divers themselves, they're also Mountain Rescue Volunteers - in fact, they deliver all the medical training to the team in our region! They know everything there is to know about outdoor first aid and they will tailor their course to make it diving specific.

We need at least 6 participants to invite Life Saving Training to deliver a course at The Fifth Point. You can see our current availability here. If there's no courses listed right now, let us know you're interested and we'll do our best to orgnaise one!

Alternatively, Helena and Ian run open courses which you are more than welcome to join. You can see their scheduled training dates here.

The PADI Rescue Course is the next step on your diving journey. Learn from the best, most experienced, and passionate instructors in the region and continue your journey the right way. We are committed to developing divers with outstanding skills and who share our environmentally conscious attitude towards scuba diving.

Your adventure.

This isn't your bog-standard PADI Rescue Course. it's sooo much more than that! We've created a whole weekend of adventure, the Rescue course is just the framework. While you learn how to deal with real-life situations, you will gain insights from our experienced team - they've been around the block a few times and will be able to share their stories about how they put their own rescue skills to good use.

Our credentials.

We are a PADI 5* Instructor Development Centre which means our team train everyone from beginner divers just like you, all the way up to instructor level.

Nic and Jim (the co-founders of The Fifth Point) have been teaching people to dive for over a decade. They have created a very special team of instructors and divemasters who will make you feel welcome and like you're part of the team.

Our commitment to protecting the ocean.

The ocean is a very special place. It's our playground, our office, our happy place. It's also the world's life support system. Without it, there would be no life on Earth.

As a scuba diver, you will witness first-hand the pressures that the ocean face. From the devastating impact of climate change on underwater habitats to the issues caused by marine debris.

As a scuba diver, you also have the skills to do something about it!

Your actions on land and underwater can directly protect the ocean. Although you'll be concentrating on protecting your dive buddies during your PADI Rescue Course, your training will be conducted with minimal impact on the underwater world.

Diving with The Fifth Point is joining an army of like-minded eco-divers who do everything they can to protect what they love.

All our PADI Rescue Course adventure weekends consist of 3 main phases:

  • Knowledge Development
  • Confined Water Dives
  • Open Water Dives

Knowledge Development

You'll work through your Knowledge Development in your own time using awesome PADI elearning. We'll help you get this all set up when we see you.

As part of your PADI Rescue Course, you'll complete your Emergency Oxygen Provider Course. This training complements your rescue adventure perfectly as you'll get the chance to administer oxygen during your skills practice and scenarios. You'll get the grips with the different methods for providing O2 to a diver in need so you're prepared if its ever needed.

Confined Water Sessions

Before your adventure weekend kicks off, you'll complete some confined water sessions to get prepared for what's to come.

You'll jump in for a big pool session (one Tuesday evening before your Rescue weekend) at Astley High School. You'll go back to basics and practice self-rescue techniques plus look at dealing with panicking divers, running search patterns and in water rescue breathing.

You'll also jump in our training tank (usually the Friday evening before your Rescue weekend) to practice different techniques for surfacing unresponsive divers.

Open Water Sessions

You'll spend 2 days at a local dive site practicing your new skills in more realistic conditions and completing scenarios where you'll work with your teammates to solve a problem. These sessions are designed to make things feel as real as possible so if the proverbial were to ever hit the fan, you're ready to take action.

Our PADI Rescue Course adventure weekends start at £650.00. This includes your core training (the PADI Rescue Course), the PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider course, certifications and all your equipment rental.

If you've been looking into the PADI Rescue Course, you may have noticed that our prices are slightly higher than other centres both at home and abroad.

There's a few reasons for this and we've summarised them below. If you'd like to read about it in more detail, check out this article we wrote that explains things a bit more.

  • We only teach the PADI Rescue Course in small groups and if weekend training is no good for you, we've got fully flexible options where you can choose the schedule.
  • We pay our instructors for their work.
  • We are committed to protecting the ocean
  • Our team is amazing and you'll use top of the range scuba equipment
  • Our facilities are second to none
  • You should see our first aid kit!

We always suggest that you get in touch with all of the other dive centres too. You need to find the centre that has the right feel for you. You also need to find the instructors who you click with the most, you're going to be spending a lot of time with them after all! The only way you can do this is by sending emails, phoning up, or best of all calling in for a visit to meet the team.

We wrote a little blog post that will help you choose the perfect dive centre. You can read more here.

You will use top of the range, modern diving gear during your adventure. In fact, you'll be wearing exactly the same equipment as your Instructor! We'll make sure that you've got gear that fits you properly, is comfortable to wear and straight forward to use.

We supply everything you need including:

  • xDeep Zeos backplate, harness and wing buoyancy device
