Let's get you started!

Grab a cuppa with our co-founders Nic and James as they welcome you to The Fifth Point family. They'll personally make sure everything is organised for your course. They'll arrange your training sessions to fit your schedule, sort all the paperwork and get your eLearning set up too. This means you'll be prepared and raring to go when you jump in our tank for the first time.

You can either come into the centre for your welcome session or connect online over Zoom. Either way, Nic and James will introduce you to the team and take you on a tour of our amazing dive centre.

Our Goals

The Rescue Course is possibly the first time you've had the confidence to stop thinking about your own diving and pay attention to what's going on around you. You'll learn how to read situations and pick up cues from divers and the environment to help prevent problems before they occur. There are no better mentors for this course than our experienced PADI and Emergency First Response Instructors.

Our Values & The PADI Rescue Diver Course

  • OCEAN HEALTH: Keep Our Sea Trash Free

    • Every dive we do is a Dive Against Debris. You will see your instructors pick up every piece of trash they come across, and you can help too!
  • MARINE LIFE: Protect What You Love

    • You will develop your diving skills to learn how to read the environment around you. Not only will this help you protect the underwater world, but also your buddies.
    • We focus on buoyancy and trim a lot in our courses - way beyond the requirements. You course includes bonus workshop sessions to practise buoyancy, trim and propulsion to develop your skills further.

    • As a PADI Rescue Diver you become a better buddy who can prevent and manage problems should they ever occur.
    • Taking the further step to become a RNLI Diver equips you with the skills to plan and execute dives confidently.
    • We are the only dive centre in the UK who bring in industry experts to deliver our Emergency First Response Courses. You will learn from Outdoor First Aid specialists who are Mountain Rescue members and avid divers.
    • We are a PADI Approved Youth Training Centre which means we are specialists in teaching kids how to scuba dive. We've got equipment specifically for youngsters to keep them comfortable and warm.
    • We remove the barriers that many individuals experience when walking into UK dive centres. There is no macho attitude at The Fifth Point. We're a friendly bunch who will make you feel welcome as soon as you step foot in the door.

    • We help divers achieve their goals.
    • We value all our customers and strive to give the best customer service you've ever experienced

We're A PADI 5* Dive Centre

We are subject to PADI’s quality assurance program. This is a globally acclaimed and fully integrated approach to ensure PADI standards are maintained throughout all elements of all courses. You can rest assured that we go above and beyond the requirements of PADI.

The PADI Recue Diver course consists of three main phases:

  • Confined Water Dives
  • Open Water Dives
  • Knowledge Development

Confined Water Sessions

You'll complete a total of 3 Confined Water Sessions during the Rescue Course including a bonus Buoyancy and Trim Workshop to fine tune your skills before venturing into Open Water. During your other Confined Sessions, we'll introduce some of the more complex skills from the course in our Training Tank before practising them in more realistic conditions.

Open Water Sessions

You'll complete at least 5 dives in Open Water depending on which experience you choose. The majority of the Open Water Sessions consist of skills practise and role play with the final two dives including simulated Rescue Scenarios.

We regularly visit cracking local shore dive sites including Collywell Bay, St Mary's Island and Beadnell. We also venture further up north for some stunning dives in Eyemouth. We have monthly boat trips to The Farne Islands and St Abbs. We try to dive in the ocean whenever possible. However, if the weather turns and sea diving is not an option, we'll head to some cool lakes and quarries inland instead.

Knowledge Development

You'll work through your Knowledge Development in your own time using the awesome PADI eLearning app. It's really interactive with sections to read and videos to watch. At the end of each chapter you'll complete a Knowledge Review with a Final Exam at the end. Once the eLearning is complete, you'll take a Quick Review during one of your sessions and we can fill in any knowledge gaps.

Emergency First Response Course

We hold regular First Aid Courses led by our friends at Life Saving Training. We can organise a session at a time to suit you.

RNLI Diver Sea Survival Specialty

If you choose the RNLI Rescue Experience, you'll get the awesome opportunity to work on your Diver Sea Survival skills. We'll arrange a chilled out evening with drinks and snacks to work through the program, followed by two boat dives to put your knowledge to the test and practise your skills.

Learn From The Experts

Even though our PADI Instructors are also EFR Instructors, we are the only dive centre in the UK who bring in industry professionals to teach our First Aid courses. Helena and Ian are the owners of award winning Life Saving Training based in Newcastle. They aim to eradicate stuffy, dull and downright outdated first aid training and their courses are outstanding. They are outdoor First Aid specialists, Mountain Rescue members and avid divers who have tailor made the EFR program for scuba diving.

Our EFR Course includes:

  • Primary and Secondary Care and practical AED use
  • Aquatic injuries
  • Decompression illness
  • Emergency Oxygen provision
  • Casualty monitoring
  • Handovers to Emergency Services

There is no doubt that you will gain invaluable experience during this program that you can apply to your Rescue Diver Course and every dive you do in the future.

What are the prerequisites for this course?

To enrol on the PADI Rescue Diver course, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be in good physical health

You Tell Us When You Want To Start

There are no start dates for this course, it's completely flexible - you tell us when you want to start and we'll sort everything out for you! You can even book your first session online and we'll arrange the rest of your schedule when we see you.

Arranging Your Other Sessions

As soon as you've paid your course deposit, we'll assign your eLearning theory to you. PADI will send you an email with links to register and download your eLearning plus all the forms you need to fill in for the course. This means you can get cracking straight away and continue to work through the chapters at times to suit you.

Confined Water Sessions

When we see you for your first session, we'll sit down and plan the rest of your schedule. You'll complete 3 Confined Sessions in our Training Tank - more if you think you need it! We can jump in any time that suits you. This includes weekday, week night and weekend slots.

Emergency First Response Course

You can choose the date you'd like to complete your EFR course. It's delivered by our friends at Life Saving Training who are specialists in outdoor First Aid plus they're avid divers too!

Open Water Sessions

We're out an about diving every weekend and you're more than welcome to join us! If you're not available during weekends, don't worry - we'll arrange special week day dives just for you! We try our very best to dive as much as possible. Obviously, in this game, we're at the mercy of the weather. Should our plans change, we'll let you know with as much notice as possible. If the conditions don't let us dive in the sea then we'll head to some inland lakes and quarries instead. Please note that there are sometimes membership and/or entry fees to pay at these sites. These are the only costs not included in your course.

Payment Plans

We can arrange payment plans to make budgeting your PADI Rescue Diver Course even easier. After your initial deposit of £100.00, we can arrange weekly or monthly plans to split the cost of your course.
